Fossil 2 Gastropods Buccinidae Original Matrix Miocene Bordeaux France COA 3073

Description

Here is a wonderful fossil natural grouping, featuring 2 beautiful gastropods from the Early Miocene, about 16-20 million years ago. From Saucrats la Brede near Bordeaux, France.
The gastropods are Buccinidae, and they are whelks. Hard to measure the larger specimen as it is partly buried in the matrix, but the small one is about 2.1". The height of the specimen is about 3.8 inches, and it weighs 7.9 oz.  The gastropods have never been removed from their original matrix, and they have been cleaned off with an air abrasive.
This is definitely one of the rarer gastropod species to be found in France, far less common than species like Turritella.
A wonderful addition to any fossil shell collection.
