    Description

    Muir Stephen Fairchild [1894 1950] was a aviation pioneer and military commander who began his military career in 1913 when he entered the U.S Army's Signal Corps reserve unit in Seattle. Fairchild's military career included service in the Mexican Expedition, World War I as a fighter pilot over Germany and as a respected Army Air Force commander during World War II. He was also involved in early aviation, including flying on the 1926-1927 Pan American Good Will Tour and was one of the survivors when two of the planes collided in mid-air during the tour. Fairchild was also one of the first recipients of the Distinguished Flying Cross. During World War II Fairchild was promoted to General in 1942, and the Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force in 1948. General Fairchild died of a heart attack while on active duty in 1950, at the age of 56. Listed for auction is the autograph of General Muir Stephen signed on a card. The autograph is signed ''Muir S. Fairchild, Major, Air Corps United States Army Pilot. San Francisco. U.S Army Pan American Flight Around Central & South America 1926-1927'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches, it has trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph will be accompanied with its original transmittal envelope which is postmarked Mar 31, 1938.
