    This is a rare December 1972 "American Theatre" issue of London's "PLAYS and PLAYERS" magazine featuring LAUREN BACALL
    on the front cover. She was starring in the
    Original West End production of the CHARLES STROUSE, LEE ADAMS, BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN musical comedy "APPLAUSE" at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. (The Original Broadway production opened March 30th, 1970 at New York's Palace Theatre and ran for 896 performances. The London production opened November 16th, 1972 and ran for 382 performances.) ..... The musical starred LAUREN BACALL as "Margo Channing", the role she originated on Broadway and featured ANGELA RICHARDS, ERIC FLYNN, BASIL HOSKINS, SARAH MARSHALL, ROD McLENNAN, KEN WALSH and SHEILA O'NEILL .....     ..... DETAILS: The 76 page magazine measures 8 3/8" X 11" inches and includes the wonderful cover photo of LAUREN BACALL
    as well as an article on CHARLES STROUSE and LEE ADAMS who had "APPLAUSE" and "I AND ALBERT" currently playing in the West End. Also includes an article on TENNESSEE WILLIAMS at 62, with a photo of Andy Warhol Superstar CANDY DARLING
    (shown in the scanned images), who was starring in Williams' Off-Broadway play "Small Craft Warnings" and would die of lymphoma
    fifteen months later
    at the age of 29. There are also photos of DIANA RIGG and ANTHONY HOPKINS in "Macbeth" and the cast of "PIPPIN" as well as a three-page feature on JOSEPH PAPP and the New York Shakespeare Festival. The magazine includes additional features on other West End and Provincial theatre productions ..... CONDITION: With the exception of slight surface rubbing to the cover, this rare publication is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to any collection. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
