Letter to Charles Lindbergh Bank financed Flight? Marked 6 7 8 June 1927 Unique
Ultra rare letter from Northwestern Bank in Saint Louis Missouri to Charles Lindberg after his return to Washington DC after his historical flight to Europe. He started his flight 20 May 1927 in New York. He came back on 11 June 1927 on the US Navy cruiser USS Memphis (Cl-B) and went to the Washington DC Navy yard and was given the first award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He went on to New York on 13 June.
The letter was postmarked three times in Saint Louis on 6, 7, and 8th June 1927, and was sent by airmail to Lindbergh in Washington DC, care of Postmaster General. Northwestern Bank was possibly financed Lindbergh's flight; all we know is that he had a difficult time securing money for the flight. Northwestern Bank also issued memorabilia so they were clearly involved in Lindberg.
The letter is very visually appealing with 9 red 2c Washington, 2 green 1c Washington stamps, and one yellow 10c stamp, and very nice hand cancels.
